Theatrical Developments (Throughout 2025)
This is a big year for theater at Kayd! We’re nurturing emerging Muslim women playwrights and collaborating with Maanta Theatre to bring new Somali-inspired stories to the stage.
Side eYe’s Writer’s Workshop
Designed to amplify underrepresented narratives, this workshop invites a cohort of emerging Muslim women writers to develop their craft and gain practical industry insights.
Participants will collaborate with experienced playwrights, directors, and dramaturgs, refining their scripts while building professional networks.
The workshop culminates in a two-day showcase at the Somali Week Festival 2025, featuring readings from 20 talented writers. One standout piece will be chosen for full-scale production and a national tour in 2026—an incredible opportunity to spotlight diverse voices and experiences.
Partnering with Maanta Theatre
We’re also joining forces with Maanta Theatre on an exciting production that highlights contemporary Somali narratives.
Expect an unforgettable story, passionate performances, and a glimpse into the joys and challenges of Somali heritage in today’s world.
In the lead-up to opening night, we’ll be sharing insights, hosting Q&A events, and inviting the community to see how a production takes shape.
