CREATIVE MIXER

Somali Arts in Conversation

The Creative Mixer is Kayd Somali Arts & Culture’s year-long series of events dedicated to bringing together a vibrant community of Somali artists, writers, performers, and filmmakers, both established and emerging. Each edition of the Mixer welcomes diverse voices who are eager to collaborate, workshop ideas, and share fresh perspectives on Somali creativity in the UK.

A Space to Connect

We’ve designed the Mixer to feel like a friendly hangout rather than a formal showcase. Think short readings, live demos, and open Q&As, all aimed at building real connections. It’s a perfect chance to discover fresh talents or chat with seasoned pros who’ve made their mark on the scene.

What’s Happening and When

What’s Happening and When

We kick off the year with a celebration of Salma Ibrahim’s Salutation Road, a thoughtful and stirring debut novel that touches on everyday immigration struggles.

Later in the year, the Mixer becomes a platform for cross-cultural explorations, short film launches, and intimate Q&As—moments where conversation flows freely, fuelled by a mutual passion for telling Somali stories in fresh ways.

Perhaps the biggest highlight of 2025 will be the special Creative Mixer session held during Somali Week Festival in October 2025. This high-energy gathering welcomes a wider audience and even more creative minds, including cast members from “Between Two Worlds.

It’s the perfect chance for budding filmmakers to meet upcoming actors, for seasoned authors to mentor fresh writing talent, and for the entire Kayd community to celebrate what’s next in Somali-led arts.
