Between Two Worlds
A Fresh Take on Migration, Resilience & Somali Identity
Set between Mogadishu and London, Between Two Worlds follows the emotional journey of Ali, a young Somali man who dreams of a better life in Europe.
Torn between the love for his family and the lure of opportunity abroad, Ali makes a decision that reverberates through borders and generations.
This powerful, humanising story explores themes of migration, identity, sacrifice, and the search for belonging—echoing the lived realities of many in the Somali diaspora.
Why it matters?
This production is a rare showcase of Somali-led theatre on London stages. Kayd Somali Arts & Culture supports the entire creative team by providing rehearsal space, mentorship, and professional pathways, with a focus on elevating emerging British-Somali talent—particularly women—into mainstream cultural venues.
The collaboration between Mohamed Mohamud and Maanta Theatre also points to a broader movement in Somali-led theatre. Building on the momentum from their initial performances at Somali Week Festival 2024, Maanta Theatre’s work here signals the growing enthusiasm for diverse, culturally rich narratives that highlight experiences of migration and belonging. “Between Two Worlds” aims to expand that conversation, opening doors for new playwrights, actors, and theatre practitioners in the Somali diaspora.
Where & When?
The show premieres at Oxford House on July 6th & 7th - 2025, with two performances set to welcome around 120 guests each.
